Artist Spotlight: Melissa Jacobsen

Welcome Melissa Jacobsen to our Midtown Art Wall!

We are so captivated by the Alaskan motifs in Melissa’s work! From the minute to the grandiose, her paintings capture beautiful moments in this place we call home. We hope you’ll visit the shop to see these pieces for yourself.

We caught up with Melissa for some Q&A:

Tell us about what inspired the pieces for this collection?

I moved to Anchorage from West Texas two years ago.  West Texas was flattest, brownest and most barren place you can imagine. So when I moved here, I was (and still am) constantly in awe of the gorgeous trees and mountains we have here in Alaska.  Alaska is still magical to me and I try to capture that magic in my paintings.

Tell us a bit about yourself as an artist?

I am a self-taught artist and picked it up after having my first daughter and becoming a stay-at-home mom.  It was the perfect creative outlet for me and I loved it instantly.  I have four children now and finding time to paint takes some juggling.  I'm always painting during naptimes or late at night and my house is often a mess, but I love it!

What else would you like to share about your process, drive or artistic journey?

I am a major homebody and love interior design.  I aim to create pieces that blend seamlessly into the aesthetics of a person’s home.  I paint with the end goal in mind.  Would someone hang this in their beautiful home?  Will this help their home feel more beautiful and peaceful?

Favorite Wild Scoops flavor?

I'm a basic gal.  Chocolate always.

Fun Fact?

I love pickleball and play it as often as I can.

How can we follow your art?
