Welcome Sarah Cochran to the Midtown Art Wall! We love Sarah’s colorful and whimsical pieces that capture familiar elements of our Alaskan home and everyday life. Read on to learn about Sarah and her work!

Tell us about what inspired the pieces for this collection?

Honestly my family. I just paint what they’ll like and hope that other people like it, too! And if it doesn’t sell and it hangs on my wall at home, at least then I like to look at it! :)

Tell us a bit about yourself as an artist?

Painting and drawing are what I love - like Pam in the Office, “I hate computers,” haha. I am not a “social artist” - my best work is done when I’m alone with a cup of tea (or coffee) and a good podcast. I would say my artistic focus isn’t just on visual art, though - in the last couple of years, I’ve really shifted to focusing on creating within my home. Painting doors, making fairy houses for the garden, redecorating walls - all of these things are creative outlets for me.

What else would you like to share about your process, drive, or artistic journey?

I would say that it’s important to give yourself room to change and grow. I’d also encourage people who have a creative interest to find a hobby that they love and go for it - and don’t worry about social media or making a business out of it right away (truly, get off the Tik Tok and just enjoy doing something in the real world - it’ll change your life). Looking back, I wish that I had started my business later and just gotten better as an artist first. Squash the fear of failure and try something new, and try to get good at it, without pressure of starting a business or gaining a huge following. I’m a Christian so I want to glorify the Lord in my art, and I believe that God gives us good gifts and talents that we should pursue and develop - even if we never become a huge “success” :)

Favorite Wild Scoops flavor?

The one with potato chips! Yukon Gold? So good!!

Fun fact?

I am a wannabe homesteader - having a farm with animals and a garden and all of the things is my dream.

How can we follow your art?

@sarah.cochran.artist on instagram, or you can “snail mail” me on email and let me know what you think! I’d love to hear from you.  sarahcochranartist@gmail.com
