Tell us what inspired the pieces for this collection.

The pieces in this collection are inspired by the adorable and amazing animals of Alaska! We are so lucky to live near these wonderful beings and I live to render them in dreamlike, bold colors. Many of the paintings in this collection are also featured in 5 of my self-published Alaskan children’s books.

What is the medium for this collection?

Mixed medium. Either acrylic or oil-based paints.

Tell us about yourself as an artist.

I am a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist and work with people who are terminally ill to process their experience and life through art, to help them create meaning and legacy at the end of their life. I’m in my 2nd year as a PhD student in Palliative Care through the U of Maryland, where my dissertation will work with cancer patients processing meaning through art.  I’m also an instructor of studio arts one semester a year at Alaska Pacific University, where I teach introductory drawing and painting techniques to college students. I love creating art in my spare time to give joy and beauty to Alaskan residents!

What else would you like to share about your process, drive, or artistic journey?

It is important to me to give back to my community through my art. I paint live paintings at galas each year to auction off and support local charities. My latest auction painting in April went for $5,600 to support foster children through Beacon Hill Alaska.

Any favorite wild scoops flavors?

Of course! My kids and I visit frequently - I love White Peppermint Bark and White Raven. In a cone, not a cup! :)
