Happy Holidays! Happy New Year! Let it snow!
It's the end of the year, the season to spend time with family and friends. Facebook just sent me a "Happy Winter!" message last week, and it caught me by surprise. Here in Alaska, the Winter Solstice is the time to celebrate when the days start to lengthen. It feels like the darkest is now behind us and we've made it.
"But how does it work, selling ice cream in Alaska in winter?" people often ask us, incredulous. We love it! It's a chance to make all those tasty wintery flavors with peppermint, ginger, cinnamon, cozy spices, boozy pecan, warming teas and more -- flavors that just don't seem as right in the summer (but don't worry, some of them might make an appearance anyway...). And, while Alaskans may not stroll the icy streets licking at cones, we love sharing ice cream pints at home around a fire.
In the winter, we sell pre-ordered pints of ice cream. On sales weeks, flavors can be purchased online starting 8 p.m. on Fridays. We have "pop-up" locations on Wednesdays and Thursdays; starting in early Jan, the locations will be:
Wed, 4:30-6:30 -- South Coffeehouse
Thurs, 11:30-1 -- kitchen behind Mad Myrna's, 530 E. 5th (alley btw 5th and 6th)
Thurs, 4:30-6:30 -- Black Cup Coffee (midtown)
We encourage you to pre-order to help us anticipate numbers and to guarantee that you get the flavor you want (we always sell out of somethings). However, we always bring extras, so we also love when people just stop by and buy something! If you've received a gift pint coupon, you can email us in advance to reserve your desired flavor, or just show up and get something good.
